On February 14th at 6.00pm the said service of Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes will take place at St Paul’s.
The tradition of signing the cross on the forehead at the beginning of Lent goes back many centuries in the mainstream history of the church. This is both a moment of solemn personal reflection and a public statement of intent to undertake some form of personal discipline during the 40-day season.
In the past this personal discipline has included “giving up” certain food, drink or activities, but more recently Christians have been encouraged to take on something new that expresses and deepens their faith, such as volunteering or starting a programme of prayer or bible study.
All are welcome to come along to this lovely service.
