Lady Chapel Window Restoration Begins

On February 12th February the Lady Chapel window was carefully assessed, with some sections removed and taken for restoration.

There are significant defects in several stained glass windows in the church, including bowing, chips and cracks as well as stress on the frame.

Our appointed artisans, Anthony and Adeline, started by ensuring the altar was properly protected before even attempting to open the window for full inspection in situ.

Opening the window was tricky but achieved successfully, allowing Adeline to inspect the way the window has been fixed – discovering that instead of the expected iron, there was brass in the framework. Possibly for a golden display?

The work will take several weeks to complete.
